I just bought a gen 2 G23 model in black and was posting to the price thread when I went down this rabbit hole. Please tell me your thoughts on this excerpt from my post:

::begin paste::
So where can I find a forward grip that holds another mag? Why is this not a thing? Build a flashlight mount into it and make it folding, and I'd pay $100 for it. For $200 I could get another Glock 23 frame, modify it to mount on the rail, then get a light for it... but can't store it easily with a large mag.

Edit before submission: JB WELD to the rescue!! Just ordered a gen3 airsoft G23 frame from HongKong for $30, going to epoxy a metal bar into it for rigidity and also affix a quick detach mount as well. (Amazon $18) Now to find a tac-light for the Glock accessory rail. Make it pretty with some PC-7 paste and I think it will do the trick.

Edit before submission II:

So, my understanding of the NFA laws would be: if you attach a serialized pistol frame to a stocked rifle, you have just made a short-barreled rifle whether you have a barrel on the pistol or not. This would require the $200 tax stamp or you are committing a felony.

I noticed that you edited the post to read that you are obtaining an airsoft pistol frame to attach as your front grip. This would not be illegal since the airsoft gun is not considered a "firearm" or a "handgun" although at first glance it may look like a handgun frame. Personally, I wouldn't want to attract that kind of attention.

Keep in mind that I am not an attorney and any legal advice you follow on this site is at your own risk.

Regarding the grip, I would love to have a forward grip that would hold a magazine in that fashion. A company named Fab Defense used to make a floorplate for a Glock mag that would allow you to attach the mag to a picatinny rail and use the mag body as the forward grip. Never actually tried one out and I'm not sure if they're still manufactured. A quick Google search turned up this link.

I appreciate the comment, I am well versed in NFA and this would not violate anything. I just wanted to know if I was missing something obvious, like an available product currently on the market.

Now putting a forward grip on a pistol would create an AOW, but that is not what is happening here.

TNasty, you're allowed to convert a pistol into a rifle. If this counted as anything, that's what it would be. He simultaneously added a long barrel and a stock, so it was never an SBR. Turning a rifle into a pistol is the problem, not the other way around.

Since this was airsoft, it's not a firearm anyway.

If it was a firearm, I don't know whether it would matter.

hum .. before i do all that , i'd make a kydex mag holder that fits the m-lock sides before i hang that ugly bulky thing out the bottom ... not a big fan of vertical grips on this gun anyway .. AFG does feel good on mine though ..

I started there, and ended up here, it would be a little bulky to hold the forend without a vertical grip. May still do one on the left side, or maybe a strap-on flash-bang pouch large enough for the can, might hold two mags in there.

Very interesting idea.

If you're never going to use the pistol as a pistol again maybe you could chop off the trigger assembly and lower rail so you're just left with the grip/mag holder?

Maybe move the mag release to the other side?
