Buying a used PMR ~ Questions

Even though I experienced issues with my brand new CMR the first time out, and then finding out
that the warranty does not follow the weapon. Call me crazy, I am now considering buying a used PMR

I have some questions for those that have been there & done that.

1. Have there been any problems with the PMR over the years ?
2. Are there any particular things a shopper should look out for ?
3. Is there a consensus about a certain year of production being desired, or avoided ?
4. Is one color harder to find than another ?

I am confident a non-warranty repair will make my CMR reliable, but if at all possible I would like to
avoid returning whatever PMR I find to the factory for repair/updates after I buy it :D

New PMRS can now be found for as low as $400. There have been many issues with the older models, keyhole problems, reliability issues, some blown up. Caution is advisable. Without the warranty you may end up with a piece of expensive plastic. Second hand................would have to be far below purchase price of the new improved models that come with FULL FACTORY WARRANTY.

I will follow your advice, and buy factory new so that I get the warranty.

However, finding one online is proving to be a real challenge.

its very easy to find online go to gunbroker.com and type in pmr30 in the search box and a bazillion will show up in multiple colors and if you buy out of state you save the sales tax to cover the shipping and ffl xfer fee.

Brother?...I dunno how much you'd have to pay for that "new but no warranty" OD green PMR you depicted above but even I took pause with the $400 comment so I went looking...and?....good luck with that cause I just shopped them again and?...

The Lowest Price I found was at Gander Mountain...priced at $419.99...but?...

They don't actually have any...."out of stock"

Next up was "Tombstone Tactical"...and while they list about 7-8 different color/models of PMR-30's for in the Mid-$400's?....again?...they have "ZERO" in stock...not a one....of any of them.

I find that Gunbroker.com is a pretty fair barometer of what current selling prices actually are...listed by folks who actually have one in stock...and in a brief review of current prices?...new PMR-30's are currently selling in the $500-$600 price range but I did find one place (that oddly enough is lodcated close too Keltecs plant in Apopka, FL that has (8)...all in basic black with a "Buy Now" price of $465 here....

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=556363914

I paid $489 for my "Titanium" model last week.....

from a local gun shop/range where I know the guy...I'm certain he still made a couple hundred off the sale but hey...he's got lights to keep lit...hepa filtration systems to keep running and employees to pay...I was just happy to find one in his case that I could see, hold and handle prior to buying and?...I think the Titanium model looks hot...then again?...I've always been a sucker for the mechanical looks of black & silver. LOL!

Good luck shopping/deciding! ;)

There are plenty of them available online (GB & other sites), but I prefer to deal F2F, and I also want the warranty.

I would feel differently about the warranty if I knew how to tell the old from the new, and avoid known issues.

Last time I looked at my LGS they had two, they wanted $399 and were giving a box of ammo, 50 rounds, with purchase. Still $465 for new with WARRANTY given the history of the PMR is a smarter buy than a used one even as new with no warranty for $100 less. Depends on priorities I guess. Never understood the charm of going to the casino either:D

I'm by no means an expert on PMR-30's yet but I have done quite a bit of after the fact research and from what I gather?...

as long as it doesn't have the old style fluted barrel but does have the upgraded frame?...you're good to go and should have great service as long as...

You properly load your magazines with suitable ammo.

I can tell you this...if that OD Green one you pictured above was in my local?...and they wanted $400 or less for it?...

There'd be a vapor trail behind the wad of $20's I threw at them! LOL!

That O.D. Green PMR IS a newer model...PMR's are relatively simple in design and there's no parts that I'd call "expensive to replace"...couple that with the info and support on sites like this one?...if it were a great deal I wouldn't let the lack of warranty detract me from purchasing it if I wanted it...but that's me...and this is your money...decide accordingly....oh and?...

Give us a good range report on the new O.D. Green PMR you're going to buy! LOL! ;)

Well that sir sounds like a darn great deal!...dunno what State you're in but LGS prices/deals certainly can and do vary...sometimes by quite a bit...just like the odds with certain dealers in casinos! LOL! ;)

After sorting out the information gathered here on KTOG and gleaning all that's
posted on the net, I decided to buy a factory new PMR-30 with a full lifetime
warranty. $499.00 + on GB for basic black in a slim hard case. I also picked up
5 extra mags. Now I need to find a deal on 500 / 1000 rounds of quality ammo.

Congratulations...now...ammo...

I used ammoseek.com to locate a good deal on 1,000 HVM at $15.99 per box of 50. ;)
