I recently picked up a RDB off gun broker, tried of searching. I really like this firearm and its features. Anyways, less then 10 mags into it the gun started getting stuck cases. I cleared it and it happened again and again. I decided to tear the gun apart and found that the extractor pin was gone. Either broken and fell out or just fell out. Kel tec said they'd send a new one out, so we'll see.

Also, gi mags don't work, d&h mags seem to work. You guys seen these issues?

That seems to be one of the "known issues" with the bolt carrier. Hasn't happened to a lot of people from what I understand, but you are not alone.

I sent my bolt carrier assembly in for other reasons, and part of the work order (though I did not request it) was replacing the "ejector pin" and "extractor axis," so maybe a bit of preventative medicine. My serial is in the 600s.

Regarding mags, I ran a couple Colt 20 rounders without issue, may have to test them more (not that I really plan on using them with the gun, it was just curiosity), otherwise no real mag issues to speak of. (Though I was having particular ammo issues, so hard to be sure I guess. Will save that info for a separate post.)

Sounds like a few bolts may have gotten through with a slightly oversize hole. Do you think a center punch to pean the edge of the holes of the ejector and extractor pins would help? If needed.

I like the RDB handling, weight and ejection, the whole design is awesome I think. I want to put some serious lead down range with it, but every range trip has been bad. First trip with only gi mags, second trip stuck case with no cleaning rod. Third trip extractor breakage. Hopefully next trip will be uneventful. Aside from these issues, the gun seems to feed well even suppressed, accuracy seems acceptable. I own most MSR's and this is the one that I'm digging the most right now.

Range trip 4 update
I replaced the extractor pin and fired a couple hundred more rounds through without issue. I didn't notice any walking of the new pin so hopefully this issue is resolved. I will be using this rifle quite a lot so hopefully she holds up. I really dig the ergos of the RDB. My x95 is lonely cuz I always grab the RDB.

Okay - so I too had the extractor pin disappearing act with my RDB the first time I shot it. Got a new pin from Kel Tec and installed it no problems. Went to the range today and my second trip is equally frustrating. Random FTE problems consistent enough to be annoying. I stripped it down and verified the ejector pin replacement hasn't gone missing but still random problems.

Ouch - hopefully they're sending you the replacement first with a prepaid label to return the defective one. This was their blunder and they should make it right for you with minimal hassle on your end.

I've rarely ever run into an issue with a brand new rifle but in the couple of instances I did; the support staff handled the situation professionally. I've found KelTec's response to be borderline rude and unprofessional. They made it seem like they had never heard of the problem and I didn't know it was happening to others at the time I called them.

I'm going to take mine apart and see if I have additional damage I didn't see before. My pin didn't sheer off as far as I know but was completely gone. When you think about it - a part that size floating around in that area could never be a good thing and may be why I'm still having problems with mine despite installing the replacement pin they sent.

I just dropped it off. Kel tec paid for the shipping, I had to ask for a label. Hopefully it's not gone too long.

I'd check your carrier for any signs of wear, should be a simple fix just kind of annoying to have to send it back. They wouldn't send out a replacement bolt and carrier.

Looks like the x95 is going to be put to work now.

Just got hands on the rifle. Wanted to know in terms of design what is keeping this extractor pin from walking out? Only took it apart once tonight and more than half the time was spent with clp working the take down pins in and out (tighter then a prom date). I did notice that
With a bic pen I could move the extractor pin fwd and backward with ease...

It appears that the extractor pin is held in place by the extractor spring tension on the extractor (similar to the AR-15). This gives the force needed to hold the pin in place. If the spring is a little weak or the spring hole is a little too deep there will be less tension on the extractor. This may cause the pin to be able to "walk" out of the hole.

A stronger spring may help. There are AR-15 extractor upgrade kits that include a stronger spring, polymer plug and an o-ring that give stronger forces in the AR bolt. Does anyone know if this kit will fit the RDB bolt? It may increase the force enough to hold the extractor pin in place.

I dug through my AR parts and found an extractor spring upgrade kit by BCM. This is like the Larue kit with a heavier spring, new buffer and an o-ring. The new spring and buffer from the AR kit fit the RDB bolt and extractor. I did not try to use the o-ring. I'm not sure there will be enough room for the o-ring.

Anyway, the AR-15 extractor spring upgrade kit DOES fit the RDB bolt and extractor. Try this if your RDB extractor pin is walking out. It may help.

This looks to be a very cheap investment that can save a lot of heartache. Not just in the RDB but also your AR-15s

Keep us updated, I'm curious to know how yours does! I wonder if it will have the same issue. I haven't heard anything from keltec, hopefully they fix mine good. I really dig the rifle

You and me both. If i get a chance I am going to disassemble my ar15 and see how difficult it is to remove. If it seems the same as the rdb Ill leave my rdb alone. :)
