On my first trip to range my gas cap pin broke after 1 round. I thought that it was just a bad pin. Contacted Kel-tec and they said to send it to them. This is a brand new 2nd gen $1500 firearm. I asked if I could just replace the pin. No problem they will send me one. For insurance I ordered 2 pins and spare spring. I received my order before my replacement pin arrived. After breaking 2 more pins I started to use small screwdriver to push pin and turn cap. Today I received new cap I ordered and same thing. $25 bucks wasted. You cannot turn gas cap without breaking pin. You would think that when they assemble a firearm they would check this. From this Forum I see that I'm not the only one with this problem. Great technology, poor quality control. Also sent my CMR back for broken bolt catch, 2nd time same thing

Post #28, in this thread, which you have probably already seen...

Same exact thing happened to me.

Should we have to do this? No. Will I once I get my new detent pin? Yes. Probably along with trying to round the head of the pin, if it isn't already.

I'm a big sports car guy, and boutique cars are the same way. Low volume production, small engineering and design staff, and stuff happens that they can't or don't predict. You would be amazed at some of the terrible engineering in my Ferrari, and even the new ones often need issues corrected shortly after they are driven the first time.

I look at it this way. It's a small price to pay for getting to drive/shoot something so cool, plus since you have to delve into it to fix things, you get a better understanding of how everything works, which will help in the future when something else breaks. :) But I'm also an engineer who enjoys stuff like this, and figures stuff will happen.

Rangemaster yesterday laughed when I told him I had heard Kel Tec's were hit or miss brand new, and I must have gotten a miss. (after he saw how bad the bore sight from the store was)
