In this particular case, the answer is in both item #10 and #18. I mention this because there is a lot of other good info in there that's immediately available without waiting for someone to post an answer.
Well it was pretty ease getting the old bird cage off. Not sure what generation I have but mine has a jam nut on it. All I did was take two 3/4" wrenches, hold the jam nut with one and spin the flash hider off with the other. I did have to grind both wrenches a little making them flatter so both fit together on the narrow flats.
