Well it was pretty ease getting the old bird cage off. Not sure what generation I have but mine has a jam nut on it. All I did was take two 3/4" wrenches, hold the jam nut with one and spin the flash hider off with the other. I did have to grind both wrenches a little making them flatter so both fit together on the narrow flats.
