After hours of searching I was unable to find a metal magazine catch for my newest Kel-tec, a p32, and decided to mill one myself. I have enough material to make quite a few if there is enough interest. Milled and polished by hand out of 6061 aluminum.

Jat428...if you were to move forward with this project...any posts related to it have to be in our Trading Post...per our rules.

And unfortunately, you don't qualify to even see our Trading Post yet....also per our rules, I'll post a link to our rules after at the bottom.

BTW, several members over the years have made mag catches out of different materials...they did OK for a short time...then seemed to fade away. Not sure why, but I'd guess there's not really that many that want them in here.

Starting to see there is not much interest, odd with the number of posts I've read about the plastic mag catch and inadvertent mag drops. As far as the rules go it says 25 posts or a paid membership, which I have paid, so how does that disqualify me? Thanks-J

You may have paid, but your status hasn't changed yet. Your avatar would look different. That's above my pay grade...I'll see if Admin can get you updated.

There has been several makers of metal mag catches over the years...some sort of successful, some not. They all find there's not much demand and they fade away.

Give it a shot....who knows?

I just checked and it does say that. 25 post or a paid membership, I hadn't notice that before. I guess I should check back more often.

I certainly wasn't trying to start any sort of business on this. I made one for myself and thought it turned out nice so was just trying to share my ability with the community and maybe help out a few members.

Price may be a determining factor. In spite of time and materials, folks see it as a small part that shouldn't cost too much. Some of the previous offerings were a little pricey, IIRC.

It makes it tough to spend money on these guns when they are priced so low to begin with. I went back and forth on wether or not to pay a quarter of what I paid for the gun for a new trigger but it turned out to be well worth the money for me at least so much so that I bought one for both my p11 and p32. Then add in the stainless mag catch and 2 12rnd mags and now I've paid more for accessories than the gun itself! I look at it this way, the gun being so affordable has made it possible to afford more accessories and bling!

I agree.

I would rather have a steel mag catch like most firearms use that also use steel magazines. Why KT hasn't switched over to metal mag catches like they did with the PF9 is beyond me. In the mean time I have several back ups from when I owned a P3AT.

Another angle here ...
No interest, because it just really isn't necessary for the P-32.

I had multiple issues with my P3-AT to get it reliable, one of which was dropping mags & wearing out the mag catch. I spent a good sum on an aluminum catch & guess what it wore that out too ... subsequently I just simply became proficient at changing the plastic mag catch out ... and of course I use proper "KT technique" in I always depress the catch as I insert the magazine (no slamming it home as I do in robust handguns like my Springfield, Smith & Wesson, Colt or CZ) and I wiggle the thing vigorously ensuring solid seating ... I learned how to use my P3-AT so that it would be reliable ... it's not hard to put a new catch in there & I have spares available ... I simply consider it an expendable item in a P3-AT.

The substantial percussion at firing experienced in the P3-AT is not the case in the P-32. My little .32 pocket friend has never had a malfunction of any type. IMO the design margin in the P-32 is simply superior to the P3-AT ... my P-32 does not need a metal mag catch.

Cheers, CJ

Posting just because this might be helpful (sorry for the amateur photography but that's what I am)

I took my P-32 mag catch out of my pistol & took pictures of:
- the used P-32 catch (top), a new P3-AT catch (middle) and my old failed aluminum catch (after about 100 rounds wear it started dropping mags)
- included 6 years back pic of my pocket .32 just because it looks so good!

The mag catch in my P-32 is the original. True only 500 plus rounds & true I have babied it from the beginning (by the time I acquired my .32 I was proficient in "KT technique").

Cheers, CJ

Nice technique for removal.
What about re-installing?
