Has anyone altered a S&W 59 magazine for use in a P40? If so, did it work with 40S&W ammo? Was it worth the trouble? Did you have to do anything other than notching the lips to match a P40 mag? How many 40 S&W round will the S&W 59 mag hold?

I didn't get any warning. I've been using that site for maybe 15 years. It is likely not an often visited site these days. The owner was a moderator here years ago. I'm kind of surprised it's even still up, but there is some useful if dated info there.

What do you mean by "notching the lips?"

I recently modified an aftermarket 40 S&W magazine to work in my P40. It functioned very well at the range. 11 round capacity.

Edit/added the photo.

"notching the lips"

That is Texas talk for cutting a crescent in the feed lips of the magazine to allow the 40 S&W case to come out of the magazine earlier than the 9MM case would. At least that is what I understand Kel Tec did to their original 9MM mag to get it to feed 40 S&W cases. I have large hands and the extra grip length gained is more important to me than the extra 40 S&W ammo it would hold.

I found used 4006 mags at CDNN for $23.99 plus shipping. But I have two S&W 59 mags that I used with my P11 and I was thinking about altering one of them for my P40. If I am likely to destroy my 59 mag, I will buy a couple of used 4006 mags from CDNN. The problem with that is I hate to pay shipping on just one or two items. So I will have to “shop” CDNN for anything else I might “NEED” and those two mags will end up costing me $,$$$!!!!!:help:

S&W 4011 and 4013 mags are higher capacity. The 4006 mags don't help taming the snappiness of the shorty 40.

I believe those 4011 and 4013 are 8 or 9 round magazines. The factory P40 mags I have now holds 9 and does not extend past the grip. I have an extension on one but it still is not long enough to fit my hand. At any rate, I did not see any of them for sale on the net. Thanks for trying to help anyway.

The 59 mags I have measure right at 5”. Which is 1 ½” longer than my Kel Tec 9 round 40 cal mags. It looks like the 4011 or 4013 mag sticks out about that far on your Kel Tec. Is your gun a P40? Did you have to do anything else to get the 4011 or 4013 mag to work?

I have a P11 with a P40 conversion. I have a lot of OEM and a few aftermarket magazines for both calibers.

The 15 rd S&W 59 magazine is exactly like the S&W 4011/4013TSX except the feed lips.

Nothing has to be modded on the firearm for them to work.

I am easily confused!:confused: And I am confused now about the S&W 4011 & 4013 magazines. Everyone I have found for sale list 8, 9 or 10 rounds. But you are stating that they (4011 & 4013 mags) are the same size as a S&W 59 mag which holds 15 rounds of 9MM ammo? If they are the same as 59 mags, then they are 5” long, correct? How many rounds of 40 S&W do your 4011 & 4013 hold? I did a Google search and found that the early 4013s had a single stack mag. Are yours double stack?
