Accidental mag release

Has anyone come across a stronger mag release spring? I always seem to bump the mag release button with heel of hand at least once every range trip. Spring so light the mag pops out.

There is a replacement magazine base plate that claim to help with this. Might even be available on kel Tec website.... Yes they have them. Made by tandem cross $25
Yeah seen that but don't really want to extend the length of the gun

I stuff an AR Accu-Wedge into the space between the magazine and the release when I walk around the woods. It doesn't allow for quick mag change, but it keeps the mag in place.

Oh, someone is using a thick and wide rubber band (think produce bands) to cover the button, with good results.
I have called kel tec several times and they have said they have no plans to get a stronger release spring That is sad. Especially since so many owners have the same issue

I don't think using bandaid like docs are the proper solution. They may work but I guess think this is readily fixed.

I have a set of different gauge spring wires that I purchased from wolf springs.

I think I have the right gauge but haven't had the time to make a small jig to turn the wire for a proper looking spring.

Working the grave yard shift is no fun. I am to old for it. I am always fighting the battle to get enough rest.

I have to make the time to fix to set up jig to turn wire by hand .

Maybe we can get M*CARBO interested in making a stronger spring.

There was a post here about cutting the handle of the Tandemkross magazine base plates so that they stick out only a little more than the stock base plate.

Edit: I emailed M*CARBO and just received the following response:

"I've added it to the idea list. If we make one you will be the first to know. Thanks for your help and input.

Keep the ideas coming!"

So it is on their radar.

An old trick for making a rubber band, of any size, (within reason) is to
cut one out of a bicycle inner tube. Now I'm considering covering the
entire grip. Hmmm...

I purchased the Tandemkross base plate and didn't like the loop on the bottom. A few minutes with the trusty dremel and the problem was solved. I now have the bottom plate extending over the mag release without the bulky loop. A lot of people in the review of the cmr/pmr base plate say that TK should offer the option of a regular base plate with the extention over the mag release without the bulky loop.

Credit where credit is due, that Accu-Wedge idea works! It stays tight.

The only trouble is I keep misplacing the Accu-Wedges. I am trying a TandemKross base plate now. I trimmed off the excess as mentioned above by tiehshau and it is now nearly as trim as the Kel-Tec OE plate. So far, I'd say the TK plate works as advertised. It is now much more difficult to activate the mag release with the base of the palm, which is a problem with the release for many.

I will say I got an education in spring dynamics when I changed out plates. I found the retainer button after it ejected- both times! Thank goodness for small miracles.

I use it always)
The inner-tube idea works. Gives the grip a soft, cushiony feel, and helps block the mag release.
