I'm a little late posting a 2000 round report since I passed 2k a few range trips back and have definitely lost count since then. If I had to guess, I would estimate I'm in the 2500 neighborhood. I thought it would be useful to post about my experience because one of the common questions from newbies or prospective buyers is "What kind of reliability can I expect?" Here is my experience:
During my first range trip with this gun (almost 7 years ago), I had a few failures to feed. It's important to note that although I knew better, I shot the gun straight out of the box that first day, with no cleaning or lubing. After that initial trip, I did not experience another failure of any kind until around 600 rounds. My extractor had a small (nearly invisible) chip on the very tip. The gun would still cycle Gold Dots but wouldn't extract anything else. A call to Kel-tec and I had a new extractor and leaf spring in my mailbox a couple of days later. I installed the new extractor and secured the buttonhead screw with Blue Loctite, for good measure. Thousands of rounds later I have had zero malfunctions. So in other words, trouble free for 600 rounds, then a small hiccup that was easily corrected, and somewhere close to 2k since then without any issues.
The gun is for the most part stock. Early on, I polished the feedramp with 1000 grit sandpaper wrapped around a pencil eraser. I did this just for insurance but was having no issues after the initial range trip. At around 1500 rounds I called Kel-tec and asked if my round count warranted replacing anything. The guy said "Maybe it's time for recoil springs. I'll get those out to you." Other than those two minor tweaks (that I believe are immaterial to the success I've had), the gun is just as it was from the factory. I believe my experience is the norm for Kel-tec pistols. I had a P11 and a PF9 that were equally reliable. Kel-tecs just work.
