Can a 1911 chambered in 9mm be converted to also shoot 38 Super in such a way that it can shoot both rounds through the appropriately fitted barrels? Would two different slides and extractors be needed? Or, would a different recoil spring, the appropriate barrel, and magazine be the only things that would need to be swapped once the 38 Super barrel was fitted?

I think because of the semi rimmed case of the .38 Super different extractors, barrel, recoil spring, and magazine would need to be changed. Layne Simpson's book The Custom Government Model Pistol is a great resource on all things 1911. I know he talks about caliber conversions in the book but my dad has my copy at the moment or I would see what he had to say.
