Need help on optic: if you had to choose one.

Picking a gun is hard enough but choosing the optics is whats bangs my head against the wall.
When I got my KSG a year ago I threw a $100 dollar Sightmark on it and it has been a good red dot. Never lost zero, stayed locked down and never had a problem with it. There were a few times I forgot to turn it off after a range session but I always checked that when I got home.

On my rifle I put a Metpro RDS on it and and it's nothing fancy, just a dot, but it has the accelerometers in it and has the auto on as soon as it's touched and then turns itself off after a bit of time. I really, really like that. No buttons to push. When "thump" goes in the night I don't want to be looking for an on/off button in a dark room, it's ready to go.

So I can get an Eotech at around the same price I can buy the M-spec Sightmark.
You would think this would be a no brainer right?
It's an Eotech rjhyland, you gotta go with Eotech! but.....the Sightmark fms has the same reticle (not holographic) a longer battery life and has the auto on/off feature.

Smart cell phone have been out a long time now and they all had accelerometers in them and I am amazed in the optics world how many still have 1980 on/off buttons. Leupold scopes have auto on/off. Vortex and other high end scopes don't. The tech is dated.

Call me crazy but I think I am leaning towards the Sightmark over the $500 Eotech. I know I am not gonna John Wick it if "thump" goes in the night but I don't think I'll be like Deputy Phiff trying to get the one bullet in the revolver. I'd like to think somewhere in between.
And when my adrenaline is pumping and time may be a factor the last thing I want to think about is a button.

So what are you thoughts on this? I can get both at about the same price. So if you had to choose one.

Everyone knows about Eotech so I will post the Sightmark link here > http://www.sightmark.com/product.php?item=502

I wonder how that Tasco would do if in rough use, such as being inadvertently banged or dropped optic-down. On a range gun only that might not matter. On a fighter, it does.

There are plenty of negative Holossun reviews out there...hopefully the durability on them has improved.

As for me, for what I want to accomplish, I'm good with HK type Sig flip sights with an XS front dot post.

The Tasco has been run on a competition shotgun for a long time and has held up fine. It will be fine in the home defense role that it's playing.

If this were a duty gun, I would make sure that it's secured and not just rattling around in the car/truck. 850sub, keeping it in the vehicle should be fine as long as the gun is stored in something. Just letting it lay loose in the vehicle so it slides and bounces around wouldn't be ideal for any arrangement.

the bushnell trs-25 has come down in price a lot and is a very nice small package if size and weight are a consideration. doesn't have all the bells and whistles but has a nice small reticle
The trs-25 is a nice little sight. I don't live far from the Bushnell warehouse and go to their annual clearance sales. I picked up a nice Bushnell 3X magnifier for my rifle and also got the Uncle Mikes shotgunners vest there.

This is pretty impressive
I watched the whole thing.
I thought it was nice that he put the Holosun on the CMR and the $600 Trijicon on the 'special build' rifle so it didn't look ridiculous ($600 sight on a $450 rifle)

Notice which one they were shooting the most:).
My 'view' on optics (pardon the pun:D) is look-dammit!
I had a choice between a $1000 scope and a $300 scope; both were free-$0.
I wanted the :quote:good:quote: scope so bad. I twisted every knob and still couldn't see:poop: thru it.
The other one, loved me. I could aim at individual leaves on a tree 150 yards away or 20 yards away, crystal-clear.
If I had decided 'expensive' must be best, I'd be hating my rifle for the last 10 years...

But Blake, It's a Tijicon! Then I'm warranted to get the hat and the sticker and let the world know I have a Trijicon! Damn right!
Six hundred dollars of 30 meter goodness.

Now Holosun....to me that sounds dumb. It sounds almost like a bad video game. I didn't even look at their optics because of the dumb name. I doubt I'd be sporting the hat and the sticker. However, I did buy the 503C and I hope it's awesome!

Waiting on delivery.

Don't worry, if you just don't think it looks right without 6 C-notes of your hard-earned money strapped on top of it, I'll be happy to give the 'cheap' Holosun a good home:D. It's way better than what I have that I shoot good with.
I'll even throw in some...

My FTSS switch came in and the 503C and my KSG is now complete!

The reticle is kick ***! The always ready is Kick ***! The weight is Kick ***! The auto brightness is Kick ***! The little screws in the battery tray...well.... they suck. Need to be a Jeweler on them tiny little things, but the battery life is kick ***! And the solar tech is Kick *** too!
Thank you all for your input!
I see you already got the See-All. How do you like it?

Because I wear glasses, I had to dump my Eotech and go with a Vortex Spitfire on my AR. I think I have 4-5 of them now. But they don't work so well on the KSG, so I shopped around and ended up with the Sightmark Ultra. It's held up to plenty of heavy use, and is accurate enough to make smiley faces with slugs at 25 yards. I don't have any issues spending more, I just don't see any benefit to doing so.
