It is irrelevant as you MUST set it initially anyway It changes with different ammo, It changes as the gun breaks in...
Oh and it might seem like it is working great, but how do you know unless you check it? If overgassed it might be hammering the internals and not shooting as softly as the rifle is capable of...
Whatever it is? Just close it all the way and count the clicks while doing that. Then open it back up again the same number of clicks. Write it down too.
I just got mine back from repair from KetTec & their gunsmith suggest that my rifle performs at B-11. Hell I was shooting it almost at B-40, and it was shooting very soft, so I hope the suggested setting doesn't increase the recoil very much.
Mine changed DRAMATICALLY since break in. It started at B+7, stayed at B+19 until the first deep cleaning cycle with symptoms of overgassing every other magazine (squared brass, which prompted a full deep cleaning), then with all the grease and grit out of there it was beyond B+40 (cap off) with the rings on the piston. Piston rings removed it’s at B+14. No changes or damage to the gun itself, and still staying with NATO M80 (albeit from a different country now). The action feels noticeably smoother than it did new.
So I did get to shoot yesterday but it was 27 degrees and snowing which was less than conducive to a relaxed, methodical session.
I backed gas out to 40 turns and proceeed from there. My results were inconsistent at high numbers. Example: at 40 turns it failed to lock open on rounds 1 and 3 but did lock open on rounds 2 and 4!
My results were somewhat similar as I cranked it in. It would not lock back about 20% of the time until I got to 20 clicks at which point it cycled perfectly 10 times in a row.
I hope to try again today as it is supposed to get up into the high 30s with no snow!
I went to the range and verified my gas setting at 20 clicks. It reliably cycles all three different brands of ammo that I tried. At 25 it is inconsistent. I may play with it some more in a few hundred rounds but for now that is where it sits.
