Here is my PF9 with the original parkerized slide done in Wheeler Cerama-coat. One can of the coating cost $22. So far I have done a complete .45 (slide and frame) and now my PF9 slide. I still have some left for another project.
I think it came out pretty good! I also replaced the front sight since you have to cook the slide at 350* for an hour. The front sight would have melted. The marks on the slide are finger prints, not imperfections.

It is actually quite easy to do.
1. Totally clean and degrease the slide after removing front and rear sights, firing pin and extractor.
2. Shake can for 3 minutes to get a good mix
3. Apply a very light, first coat and let dry for 30 min. Do that two more times. Each time you spray try for more coverage.
4. I put mine in an old toaster oven (using an oven thermometer to get the correct temp) at 350* for one hour. It will smell and smoke if you open the door. I did mine in the garage.
5. Let cool and reassemble.

Be sure to use some steel wool before spraying to even out the "not so even" Kel Tec finish. I did not and the other side is not as shiny.
Good Luck

My reply to the above is this: One should know both the type of alloy and it's temper before exposing it to elevated temps. 350*f for one hour will alter the temper of some alloys and actually anneal others.
Check before doing any kind of heat-treating, which is what is done here.

You can order a new hard chrome slide for a little over 100 bucks or you can send your slide and barrel back to Kel Tec and tell them you want to upgrade and they will send you a hard chrome slide and barrel for 75 bucks. I sent mine in on June 13th and they said they would ship the new one out on the 17th.
