Default PLR 22 Buttstock

stI've just read the review over at Gunblast.com. I'm thinking about buying this .22 pistol. One of the accessories is the stock adapter for AR type stocks. Has anyone put an AR stock on this pistol yet ? The Magpul MOE stock might look really good.

At that point it becomes a Short Barrelled Rifle (SBR) which requires a federal tax stamp to do. *That really may not be worth the time, cost, and effort for a .22lr. *One of our guys did this to a PLR-16. *You may want to look that one up and see what all he had to do legally.

tactical22,

Welcome to KTOG!

Good thing you posted here before just running off and doing something neat and useful like adding a stock to a large pistol to make a short carbine. The BATFE cares not one bit that you didn't know you aren't allowed to do that without getting special permission and paying for the privilege. The fines and JAIL TIME are extreme if you make a Short Barrel Rifle (SBR) without the paperwork.

Here's the thread that 3wb mentioned.

If you do SBR a PLR-22 (legally!), you must post pictures.

The law explained in English:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Short_barreled_rifle

In particular, note the penalty of up o ten years in jail, $10,000 fine, forfeiture of the firearm, and forfeiture of the right to own firearms in the future.

I just did a Form 1 to SBR an HK 94 9mm rifle. This is an expensive hobby for me but I get a lot of enjoyment out of it. If I don't SBR the PLR 22, then I'm going to SBR a GSG-5 and have it threaded for my .22 sound suppressor, one or the other.

if you were to permanently attach a 6 inch long muzzle brake that would take care of the barrel length,

here is a 5.5" muzzle brake but that would make the barrel length 15.6" , maybe if you added some washers you could make it a full 16" then you could use that stock adapter http://www.bushmaster.com/products.asp?cat=8
its the "CAR 15 Extended Flash Suppressor" and its already threaded to fit,

as long as the barrel length is 16 inches and the gun has an overall length of 26 inches then your safe, also with the barrel being 16 inches and it having a stock that makes it a rifle so you can now add a forward pistol grip

Why not buy an SU-22 with a 16" barrel? It'd have better muzzle velocity and better accuracy than adding a long muzzle brake. There would also be no legal question about it being a rifle, so you could add a vertical grip. I think the BATFE considers anything manufactured as a pistol to still be a pistol unless they get paperwork saying it's been remanufactured as a rifle? Even if you're legally OK, being in a gray area like that is asking for trouble. If some overzealous agent gets on his high horse, you WILL suffer.

ya know, that always amazes me. They do make the rifle version for a reason, why spend 200.00 you do not have to....

get the rifle and have fun to start with....
