It's darn hard to get "revolutionary" innovations on a product that's been produced for centuries. Or, if you prefer, in this context "modern cartridge-based firearms" have been being produced since about the mid-19th Century or so.
Same for most any product being made. Heck, what was the last "revolutionary innovation" in cars? The roll-cage? Crumple zones? Air bags? How old are those?
