Default Interesting video on FMJ for self defense

I have posted a video or two from this fellah on other parts of the forum, before but his latest video addresses a question that I have often seen regarding the use of FMJ as self defense ammo for a .380 (he also addresses FMJ in a 9mm.) Obviously his 'intended target' and 'innocent bystander' targets aren't 100% comparable to humans but I think they do a pretty good job at being fairly analogous and work well for demonstrating his point - probably better than ballistic gelatin. Also, although he isn't using a P3AT in the demonstration the gun he is using - with its 3 inch barrel - is comparable in type.

Keep in mind, too, that (at least in my experience) the Remington UMC and Winchester White Box stuff he uses in the demonstration - at least based on my non-scientific observations - generally don't seem to be among the 'hottest' loads out there. If these relatively low end range ammo types can give the results he got imagine what the 'hotter' FMJ loads (European loads) that some people believe to be the best option for SD could do:

Thanks for sharing.

While it may not be the most scientific test by some standards I think it still is a good example. I'm sure the results would be very similar if it was done with gel.

With all the great options out there I don't know why anyone would use fmj unless their gun just isn't reliable with anything else. If that was the case I would still rather get a different gun instead. There is a lot of good videos out there comparing different types of ammo too. IMO, the Lehigh Defense XP is the best available for 380.

That was a pretty good demo. Bottom line? No fmj ammo for defense.

I carry FMJ in my P3AT. Why? Because I have not found any other round that functions 100% reliably. With that said, I am about to purchase a single stack Glock and sell the Kel-tec because I feel the Glock will be more reliable.

Even if you have to carry FMJ in the mag for reliability you can keep a good JHP in the pipe.

Great info. I always carry 2 fmj followed by 4 hollow points.
