The charging is not hardened steel, I ground the flange off a coupla' weeks ago. Perhaps someone who knows more about this process can chime in and see if it's worth looking into.

In 7 years on the forum I can count broken charging handles being reported on one hand. You signed up this week, and this was asked this week. Don't make it an epidemic.

Agreed But I do like the idea of buying a few of these misc. parts up front to have.

I have had my subby (9mm glock) for 4+years with thousand of rounds thru it. My friend was with me at the range this summer and it snapped. Call CS at KT and had a new one in a few days at no charge. Althought I must admit I was surprised when it broke.

I got my two new charging handles today, that was fast. Pay the 6.50 and have a extra one in your toolbox

I like the idea, and I am gathering up a small list of other, mostly inexpensive items I have seen commented on where people have bought extras, like the little spring and small pin that looks in the stock pin.

My charging handle broke while I was on the range Friday night. Funny thing is, the top of the charging handle remains engaged in the bolt, and I can still use the broken bottom portion to charge the bolt. It's like a detachable charging handle. But I've got two replacement charging handles on order from Kel Tec.

The recoil spring is holding it in place. Typically when they do break it's closer to the bolt notch. But again it seems to be a pretty uncommon occurrence.
