Default Grendel P12

Hi everyone, I'm looking for some imput. I have a P11 and two PF-9's, I have a friend who has an almost new Grendel P12. Has less than 30 down the pipe. He wants to sell it to me and is asking $150 for it, probably can get it for $125. Should I buy it or pass?

I wouldn't buy it for any serious use or self defense but if you have the extra cash go for it. Just keep in mind that they don't make parts them so if it brakes you may be sol. If you want to search for more info there should be plenty of threads about them.

It has a collectors value of over $125 pretty easily but the collectors market is limited to mostly Kel Tec fans.

If you're a Kel Tec collector and have got the "Holy Trinity" P11 setup, then a Grendel P12 is definitely on the "must have" list and $125-$150 is a good price.

Peace favor your sword,
Kirk

Am a Kel-Tec fan, and something about the little pistol which evolved into what we have today does interest me. It is like new with very low round count, but I have all my consealed carry needs covered and do I really need another gun to sit in the gun safe? If I thought the wife would carry it someday I would deffinately pick it up, but she loves her little Beretta Bobcat 22. So I guess I'll sleep on it over the weekend. Not many people out there looking for a Grendel or who even know what one is for that matter, so I don't think it is going anywhere.

Your wife will never carry the P-12 ... it kicks like a mule on steroids and can't hit anything you would not be able to hit by throwing it. Its a lot better for a recoil junky than for anyone to carry these days; I'm a pretty strong handed shooter and I can't even hold back the muzzle flip with 2 hands, the mass of the slide is that great when it hits the end of travel. When it was made there was no competition in its class, that's why people bought it. If you doubt me, buy it and put it in her hand, I bet she will give it back to you without emptying the mag.

If you want the real collector's piece get a P-10 and the extended barrel (yeah, that's the top gun in my avatar). You still won't be able to hold it still, but at least you'll be able to hit a house a few feet away.

I've read about the P10's, but have never seen one for sale. Did they come with two different length barrels. I know they are strip fed from the top. How do the values for them compare?

Grendel sold the 5/8" longer, threaded barrel as an accessory, like the the extended grip that lets you get another finger on the grip and a tacticool MiniMag flashlight mount. There are at least 2 P-10's on Gunbroker right now. I think the only buyers for either the P-10 or P-12 are fans of George Kelgren who own KelTecs. Once in a awhile one described as NIB is listed in Gunbroker, but the seller almost always has it way over priced and rarely has any of the accessories. On the nice used ones the stripper clip alignment tool that came with every P-10 is often missing, but they aren't hard to load one cartridge at a time.

Prices for the P-10 run about the same as the P-12 ($125-$200 depending on condition, more for accessories) ... the longer barrel is the rarest accessory. I've never seen one for sale with the barrel and don't recall when I saw a long, threaded barrel by itself. Replacement std barrels are on GB all the time; nobody buys them because nobody needs them.

There was an episode of JAG where a guy threatens Harm with a P-10 with a suppressor; the only way you could mount that is with the threaded barrel.

Another thing not to like on the P-10 and P-12 is the extra long trigger pull. Kelgren really worked out a lot before he put the KelTecs on the market.

There is a slide, no firing pin or extractor, no barrel, I'm sure if I looked I could find parts for it. But I still haven't talked myself into buying it......
